Alexander T. McLavish
Alexander T. McLavish focuses his practice on Education Law and represents numerous public and independent schools throughout the State of New Jersey. Specifically, he has experience with Public School Contracts Law, the School Ethics Act, the Open Public Records Act, student residency issues and tenure proceedings.
Alex handles a variety of construction and procurement matters, including renewable energy projects, public contracts, bidding, contract review and preparation, as well as design professional and product defect related matters. Alex has experience in many facets of construction litigation, including matters on behalf of and adverse to owners, builders, contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers and other associated professionals in connection with bid challenges, construction defect claims, property damage and delay claims.
Alex also handles a variety of Special Education matters regarding issues of free appropriate public education, individualized education programs, and compensatory education. Moreover, Alex provides legal counsel to several institutions regarding issues of employment and compliance to mitigate any potential legal liability.
Before joining the Comegno Law Group, P.C., Alex was an Attorney at a prominent law firm in Southern New Jersey where he concentrated his practice on construction litigation and procurement for municipalities and school districts in New Jersey. Prior to his experience as a construction & procurement Attorney, Alex was a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Joseph L. Marczyk, P.J. Cv. in Atlantic County, NJ. He received his law degree from Rutgers Law School where he was a member of the Mock Trial Team and president of the Estates & Trusts Society. In his capacity as president of the Estates & Trusts Society, Alex organized an annual program where police officers, firefighters and other first responders received free will and estate planning services. He has held legal internships at the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, South Jersey Industries, and a local criminal defense firm.
Alex received his Bachelor’s Degree from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) where he taught G.E.D. classes to inmates at Albert C. Wagner Correctional Facility through TCNJ’s Center for Prison Outreach & Education. Additionally, he held a number of internships throughout his college career including: The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Princeton and Lawrence Township Municipal Courts, as well as several positions in the New Jersey Statehouse. Alex is certified by the State of New Jersey as a mediator for small claims and landlord tenant matters.
Alex is a member of the Burlington County Bar Association, the Atlantic County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the Vincent S. Haneman American Inn of Court. Alex is licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey. While not practicing law, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching sports, playing golf, and visiting the Jersey shore. Alex also frequently returns to his alma mater, TCNJ, to guest lecture for Political Science and NJ State Government courses and to speak to students about opportunities beyond undergraduate education.
